Doctor Who: By The Numbers

Doctor Who is a great British science fiction show I used to watch as a kid, and as an adult when the 2005 revival happened. With the current Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) on the way out and regenerating into the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) this Christmas, I thought it would be a great opportunity to dive into the Doctor Who episode data;

All 834 episodes!

I don’t remember there being so many, but that’s a good excuse for me to understand the TV show more by gathering and exploring this rich data set. With dimensions such as Actor, Writer, Episode name, Season #, Audience Appreciation Index and TV Ratings, we will be able to build out a right dashboard and a load of insights! Feel free to explore the data for yourself using version 1* of the dashboard below!

*Given how rich the data source and subject matter is, I quickly realised there was no way I could build a dashboard that would answer every question and please all Whovians (Doctor Who fans). So I’ve called this dashboard version 1, with plans to build upon and iterate future versions based on new data sources, comments, suggestions and feedback from people as they come in (I’m proud I managed to avoid a regeneration joke there). I already have plans to add Companion data, Villain data, story timeline on Earth etc. but if you have any other cool ideas or suggestions, please let me know in the comments below or on the YouTube video at the top!
