Universal scale

Scale comparisons of any magnitude are incredibly hard to convey visually. A previous post looked at how long humans have been around since the big bang, but the example below looks at size. The creators of this interactive data visualisation from HTwins.net, have managed to capture the infinitesimally small and unimaginably colossal scales extremely well.

Combine the ability to get detailed information of any object you click on with the simple design, and you have a fun intuitive user experience that encourages exploration of the information.

Let us know what discoveries you make on the Facebook page – the 3m long earthwork is especially creepy.

(P.s. you can mute the music in the top right hand corner)
